Planning your gathering
Your questions answered.
Menus, service, booking and the details that help your event come together.
Planning your event
What kinds of events do you cater?
We create menus for weddings, rehearsal dinners, welcome parties, corporate gatherings, and private celebrations. We offer offsite catering and events at Duetts in Martindale, subject to availability and the needs of your event.
What do you need to prepare a proposal?
Send your event date, venue, estimated guest count, event hours, food preferences, dietary needs, and overall budget. Let us know whether you need appetizers, dinner, a bar, rentals, or service through the end of the evening. A floor plan and venue rules help us prepare an accurate quote.
Can you work with our budget?
We can explore the menu, service style, and extras that best fit your priorities. Your date, venue, guest count, and service needs affect the total. Any event minimum will be explained in your proposal.
Is the menu customizable?
Yes. Our standard seasonal dinner format includes one salad, two mains, and two sides. We will develop the selections with you. Premium proteins, additional courses, and specialty experiences are priced for your event.
Do guests choose one main or get to try both?
That depends on the service plan. Buffet and family-style menus may offer both mains, while plated service may use advance entrée selections. We will confirm portions, selections, and any required meal counts before finalizing your order.
Can we include appetizers, dessert, or a late-night snack?
Yes. Passed bites, stationary appetizers, dessert, and late-night food can be added. We will specify the selections, quantities, serving time, and whether each item is priced per guest or by a set quantity.
Can you accommodate allergies and dietary restrictions?
Tell us about allergies and dietary restrictions early, including the number of guests affected. Chef Mike will review the menu and preparation requirements with you. Please discuss severe allergies directly with our team so we can confirm what we can safely accommodate; a menu label alone is not a guarantee against cross-contact.
Pricing and what is included
What is the starting price for dinner?
Our current standard seasonal dinner menu starts at $50 per guest for one salad, two mains, and two sides. This is the food starting price. Staffing, premium selections, appetizers, bar service, rentals, travel, coordination, and applicable taxes are detailed separately as needed.
How much are appetizers and other additions?
Standard passed appetizers currently start at $9 per guest for each selection; stationary appetizers start at $8 per guest for each selection. Standard dessert starts at $7 per guest and late-night snacks at $10 per guest. Specialty items and custom presentations may cost more. Your proposal confirms the price and serving quantity.
Why is the full event price higher than the menu price?
Your proposal includes the people, equipment, logistics, and service needed to deliver the event. We will itemize those costs so you can see what is included and make informed choices about your budget.
Are plates, flatware, napkins, and glassware included?
These are included only when listed in your proposal. We can quote our in-house tableware or compostable dinnerware. Tell us if you need separate salad plates, wine glasses, cake plates, or another place setting so we can include the right quantities.
Can you arrange tables, chairs, linens, or specialty rentals?
We can discuss rental needs and help coordinate an appropriate plan. Large furniture, table linens, specialty glassware, delivery, pickup, and room resets must be specifically included. Availability and outside vendor charges are confirmed for each event.
How do you price children and vendor meals?
Please give us separate adult, child, and vendor counts. Vendor meals are currently listed at $32 each. Children’s meals depend on the menu and age group and are quoted separately. We will also confirm what time vendors need to eat.
Do you charge for travel or coordination?
Travel and coordination are quoted for your location and event scope. Your proposal will state the charges. Venue access fees, special equipment, additional setup days, or unusual loading requirements may also affect pricing.
How much does a venue walkthrough cost?
In-person venue walkthroughs are $400 per visit. Zoom venue walkthroughs are free. Some venues require an in-person visit, so we will confirm the venue’s requirements and timing with you. Food tastings are a separate service.
Are gratuity and payment fees included?
Your invoice and checkout show the charges that apply to your event and payment method. Please ask us to confirm whether any gratuity is included. Staffing and coordination charges should not be assumed to be a tip.
Service and the bar
What is the difference between buffet, family style, and plated service?
With buffet service, guests receive food at a service station or grill. Family-style service brings shared dishes to the table. Plated service brings individual meals to each guest. Each format has different staffing, timing, and rental requirements.
What does full service mean?
When full service is included, our team handles the food preparation, agreed tabletop setup, meal service, bussing, and the cleanup specified in your proposal during the contracted hours. We will identify who handles furniture, décor, room changes, rentals, and trash before the event.
Can we book a shorter food-service package?
A more limited service scope may be possible. We will clearly identify the arrival and departure times, included duties, and who takes over cleanup and guest service after our team leaves.
How many staff members will our event need?
We plan staffing around your guest count, menu, service style, venue layout, event hours, and venue requirements. Bar staff, kitchen staff, and dining-room staff have different responsibilities. We will show the planned staffing in your proposal.
What is included in bar service?
A typical offsite bar quote separates bar setup, materials, and bartenders. Materials generally cover ingredients for two agreed signature cocktails, standard mixers and soft drinks, water, ice, and cocktail napkins. Alcohol, specialty mixers, premium bottled water, glassware, extra bars, and extended hours must be specified.
Can we provide our own alcohol?
For offsite events, this depends on the venue and the approved bar arrangement. We must confirm who purchases, receives, transports, and serves the alcohol before you order it. Bar service at Duetts is arranged through the venue; please discuss your preferences with us.
Can you provide mocktails or nonalcoholic drinks?
Yes. We can plan signature mocktails, soft drinks, water stations, and other nonalcoholic options. Coffee, tea, premium bottled beverages, and additional stations are quoted according to your selections and service hours.
Do you cut and serve a cake from another baker?
Cake cutting can be added when arranged in advance. Your proposal will confirm the service, timing, utensils, plates, and cleanup included. Cake cutting is not automatically part of every catering package.
Booking and final details
How do we reserve our date?
We confirm your booking after the required agreement and retainer are completed. Catering agreements commonly require a 25% retainer, but your specific agreement and payment schedule control. A proposal or tasting appointment alone does not confirm the event date.
Can we schedule a tasting before booking?
Tastings are available by appointment and are currently $75 per person. We will confirm the location, available date, menu, payment details, and any event-booking credit before you reserve. Tastings are often hosted at Duetts.
Will our tasting payment be credited toward our event?
A tasting credit may be available when you book a qualifying event. Ask us to confirm the eligible booking, maximum number of credited tasters, and how the credit will appear on your invoice. The credit is applied once according to your written offer.
When are the final menu, guest count, and payment due?
Your signed agreement and payment schedule state the deadlines for your event. We will confirm the dates in writing, including the deadlines for dietary needs, entrée counts, vendor meals, and any remaining balance.
What if our guest count or plans change?
Send changes to us in writing as soon as possible. We will review the effect on food, staffing, bar materials, rentals, and fees. Reductions, additions, and refunds depend on your agreement, timing, and commitments already made for your event.
What happens if we need to cancel or reschedule?
Contact us promptly. Your agreement sets out the cancellation, retainer, and rescheduling terms. A new date depends on availability, and any approved change will be confirmed in writing.
What happens if it rains or live fire is restricted?
We coordinate with you and the venue on an appropriate cooking and service plan. Covered work areas, kitchen access, fire restrictions, power, water, and loading access should be reviewed before the event. Any alternate equipment or rental costs will be confirmed with you.
Can you provide insurance documents?
Please send venue insurance requirements early so we can review them and arrange the required documents.
Can we keep the leftovers?
If you would like leftovers, discuss containers, the recipient, and the handoff with us in advance. Availability depends on what remains and what can be safely released.
Events at Duetts
Where is Duetts?
Duetts is at 420 Main Street in Martindale, Texas. It offers a setting for private celebrations, company gatherings, and events featuring Gold Epicure food. Parking is available onsite.
What can a Duetts event package include?
Depending on the offer, a package may include venue use, food, hosted bar service, staffing, essential rentals, photography, entertainment, and setup and cleanup. Your proposal will name the included services, guest allowance, event hours, and any additional charges.
Is there one package price for every event?
No. Duetts offers vary by date, guest count, menu, event hours, and included services. Seasonal promotions apply only to their stated dates and terms. We will prepare a quote for your event and explain any additional-guest charges.
How many guests can Duetts accommodate?
Capacity depends on the event format, seating plan, weather plan, and use of the property. Share your guest count and whether you want a seated dinner, a reception, or a live performance so we can confirm the right layout.
Are photography and live music included?
Only when listed in your selected package. We will confirm photography coverage and deliverables, and any band, DJ, sound equipment, or performance hours included in the price.
Does the package include a wedding planner or coordinator?
A venue or catering package does not automatically include full event planning or wedding coordination. We will clarify the support included and the responsibilities of your planner, coordinator, venue team, and catering team.
Can we add a river activity, lodging, or a longer event?
Ask us about the experience you have in mind. Availability, permissions, access arrangements, staffing, and any added costs must be confirmed before these become part of your package.
Will Chef Mike be at our event?
Chef Mike leads our culinary direction. If his personal presence is essential to your plans, discuss it with us before booking so any agreed attendance and role can be included in writing.
